WASH Scholarship for the Arts 2025

APPLICATION DEADLINE MAY 15, 2025

Scholarship Awards/Benefits/Criteria
The Watercolor Artists of Sacramento Horizons (WASH) will award two scholarships, one $1000.00 and one $500.00, to two Sacramento County high school seniors. These scholarships are designed to help students working on a college education with a major in art.

The scholarships will be awarded at the June 2025 WASH meeting.

The awards will be determined based on artistic ability in the medium of watercolor, service to the art community and academic achievement in art classes.

Applicants are asked to submit an Artist’s Statement, digital art portfolio, letters of recommendation and the completed application. The deadline for submission is May 15, 2025. We understand that acceptance letters from colleges may not have been received by this date. We will work with student winners to make sure the scholarship money is available at their chosen school.

Artist’s Statement
The Artist’s Statement should include your reasons for wanting to be an artist, a sample list of artists and/or work you admire, your academic goals, and a description about your service to the artistic community. The statement should be 200-400 typewritten words with the applicant’s name and address at the top of the statement.

Portfolio
The portfolio is a representation of the applicant’s artistic ability with a focus on watercolor. It should include six of the student’s own work, three of which are watercolor. The other three can include drawings, mixed media, oil, acrylic, etc., that demonstrate the applicant’s talent. The digital images should be documented with:

  • the artist’s name
  • the title of the piece
  • dimensions
  • media used
  • date completed

The pieces may be coursework or artwork created independently.
